Position: Academic Counselor for students with last names A-L
Additional Responsibilities: Mrs. Garcia remains active in several professional groups and has helped the Prep establish relationships with local colleges� counseling programs.� She heads up the counseling department�s intern program and oversees counseling interns from local colleges who will earn their practicum hours at the Prep.
Educational Background: BA Psychology and minor in Sociology, Vanguard University; MA Education, emphasis Pupil Personnel Services, Azusa Pacific University.
Work experience: Maria Garcia has been an academic counselor with Fairmont Prep since 2007. Before coming to Fairmont, Mrs. Garcia served as the Head Counselor at Estancia High School in the Newport-Mesa Unified District and as a high school counselor at Brea-Olinda High School. Originally from La Paz, Bolivia, Mrs. Garcia understands the experience of being a first generation American student.
Hobbies, special interests: A proud mother of 3, including a Citron student and a Mable student, Mrs. Garcia is committed to the Prep and truly enjoys working with the students and their families.�
What you enjoy most about your role at Fairmont? Maria enjoys working with the students the most. She loves to find out what careers students are interested in and to know what motivated them in that direction. She also enjoys the college planning aspect of her job.
