Associate Director for the Preschool

Fairmont is hiring an Associate Director for the Preschool at our West Anaheim campus starting May, 2012. As the senior administrator on campus, the Preschool Associate Director will work under the direct supervision of the West Anaheim Campus Director. The Associate Director of the Preschool should have a proven track record in establishing and developing preschool programs, including a background in marketing and admissions. The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the preschool. The ideal candidate has extensive educational experience working with young children and their families; thrives in a dynamic, collaborative, team environment; is highly organized and flexible; and possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills. Duties include: staff supervision, budget and financial management, curriculum planning, staff training, office management, compliance and licensing compliance, and maintaining contact with community resources and partners.
Responsibilities:
Program Administration
- Responsible for the daily operation of the preschool and Kindergarten Prep programs.
- Ongoing renewal and implementation of the curriculum (learning standards, teaching strategies, resources and assessments), maintaining close alignment with the elementary school.
- Working with the early childhood education committee, maintaining and/or establishing policies, standards and goals to successfully implement the early childhood education program.
- Partner with parents and the community via workshops and presentations.
- Monitor students' progress, and provide students, parents and teachers with support in addressing student needs.
- Provide proactive admissions support for the campus from tour to enrollment.
- Serve as a mentor to teachers and staff and actively facilitate professional development.
- In conjunction with Fairmont administration, recruit, hire, and train primary and supplemental staff.
- Evaluate teachers and address performance issues in conjunction with West Anaheim Campus Director.
- Determine allocations of funds for staff, supplies, materials, and equipment, and authorize purchases.
- Provide oversight and guidance of extended-day, after-school enrichment, and summer programs.
- Manage program data, including class lists, using Blackbaud.
- Follow and implement Department of Social Services standards as set forth in the Child Care Center Division 12 procedures.
- Maintain a visible presence for staff, students and families.
Required Skills
- Ability to qualify as a Site Supervisor or Program Director permit level certification.
- Bachelor’s degree and related certification in the field of early childhood education.
- 8+ years combined teaching and administrative experience, preferably in California. Experience in private elementary education preferred.
- Experience working with NAYEC accreditation.
- Knowledge of Department of Social Services and Community Care Licensing requirements.
- Has a proven track record for growing a preschool program including the ability create and implement a business plan that meets budgets and goals.
- Ability to understand and manage the complexities of a preschool program.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with parents, children, and staff.

Joint Diploma Program Manager

Our Fairmont International Education division is currently searching for a Joint Diploma Program Manager in a China based office who will be responsible for coordinating between Fairmont International leadership and schools in China to ensure that Joint Diploma Program goals are being met and that schools make progress in responsibly offering an Advanced Placement program, and rigorous English language program.
We seek accomplished candidates who will work collaboratively with fellow administrators, confer with faculty, parents, and students on academic matters, and ensure the implementation of our program effectively. The ideal candidate should have the experience and professional qualifications necessary to support teamwork, set high standards, and implement a long term strategy for our program.
The Joint Diploma Manager is responsible for the following:
- Assure a cooperative role between Fairmont and partner schools to insure a consistent educational plan, which adheres to the school’s philosophy.
- Encourage strong collegiality between staff and administration to assure innovative ideas and practices that facilitate the maintenance of Fairmont’s position as a leader in education.
- Work with the admissions personnel of Chinese schools to set up testing procedures, entrance requirements and student recruitment.
- Partner with Fairmont Preparatory Academy counseling staff and administration.
- Make recommendations about areas of improvements in curriculum and instruction and gather data on outcomes.
- Ensure the recruitment, retention, and enhancement of quality teachers through ongoing faculty development and implementation of new ideas, practices, and procedures. Supervise the hiring process of teachers.
- Identify and respond to faculty, parent, student and administrator needs in a timely manner and implement a plan for a positive solution.
- Maintain long range goals and plans with the assistance of faculty and administration.
- Understand accreditation process.
- Work closely with Public Relations and Advertising Department to see that Fairmont is always portrayed to the community in a positive manner.
- Work closely with Summer Program Director to insure all programs offer the highest quality of educational programs available.
Fairmont seeks a Manager who has an open and collegial style and is committed to diversity and cultural pluralism. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of administrative experience, and additional teaching experience at the high school level
- Strong communication skills in English and Mandarin Chinese (both verbal and writing skills)
- Experience with student learning outcomes, programmatic assessment, and international education programs
- Demonstrated leadership skills including proficiency in communication and organization, effective decision making, success working with diverse constituencies, and development of constructive interpersonal relations
- Experience with strategic planning and with developing plans, policies and procedures
- Experience in American and international schools is a plus
- Residency in China and ability to travel extensively between schools located in different parts of the country is a must. Some travel to the USA will also be necessary
- Knowledge of China, of its business and educational culture, and of differences between US and Chinese educational systems
- Experience with Advanced Placement is a plus, especially with math and science APs
- Diplomacy skills, with a track record of gaining consensus
- Results-oriented with the patience necessary to negotiate between different cultures
