|
ANAHEIM, CA - June 17, 2008 – As guests of the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (OCACFE), Fairmont Preparatory Academy Law Club president Michael Weinberg and faculty advisor Michael Flum attended a luncheon with speaker John Hueston. Mr. Hueston gained significant recognition as a lead prosecutor in the trials of Enron executives Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling. (Michael Flum, Michael Weinberg, John Hueston, Saul Gordon, OCACFE President and Bob Oduguwa, OCACFE Board Advisor) Hueston discussed many of the ethical challenges facing businesses today as well as their responsibilities to minimize their civil and criminal liability. Relating from his experience from the Enron prosecution, Hueston detailed the failure of following simple ethical guidelines as the ultimate source of the company’s financial and legal downfall. The Law Club, created and led by Weinberg, is one of the 25 clubs on the Prep campus that has successfully invited in various distinguished Orange County law practitioners and leaders, including the OC District Attorney Anthony Rackauckas and agents from the FBI and OC CSI (Crime Scene Investigator), to discuss law and related topics, for the benefits of the many students at the Prep who are interested in pursuing careers in related fields. Outside speakers such as these help give our students a taste of the real-world to complement their studies. |
