Fairmont Debaters Sweep Top Awards at OCDL's Mable Meet

February 2010

On Saturday, February 13, Fairmont's Mable campus hosted the Orange County Debate League (OCDL) for its third tournament of the season. Six schools from across the county, including 26 individual teams and 77 individual speakers, participated in the tournament, held at Fairmont Preparatory Academy. Fairmont's Edgewood campus dominated the competition, winning first place team, speaker, school and tournament awards. Members of the Anaheim Hills forensics society were close on the heels of their friendly rivals from Edgewood. Mable debaters also made an impressive showing.

Fairmont students claimed 9 of the top 10 speaker awards at the tournament. Edgewood students Bradford Lee, Rochelle Rouhani, and Anjali Narang took the top three speaker awards, respectively. Allison Cheung from the Mable campus placed fourth, and Nick Crosson from Anaheim Hills placed sixth.

The overall school award (based upon the total number of wins at the meet) went to the Edgewood campus. Anaheim Hills placed second and the Mable campus completed Fairmont's sweep of all three top school awards, with a third place win.

"We continue to be impressed by the talent of Fairmont's debaters and the dedication of their coaches," says Fairmont's President David Jackson. "These top awards represent hours of hard work on the part of students and teachers—preparation that not only pays off in honors like these but in building skills for success in college and in future careers."

Fairmont's Anaheim Hills campus will play host to the Orange County Debate League Championship on March 27. Six OC schools are scheduled to participate.
