Fairmont Wins Best School Award at OC Science and Engineering Fairmont for 8th Consecutive Year; Students Take Home 35 Awards

April 2009

Anaheim, Calif., April 27, 2009 — What do fire, Fibonacci numbers, human eyes and wetlands have in common? They were the topics of scientific inquiry explored by Fairmont’s first place winning OC Science and Engineering Fair participants. This year, Fairmont racked up an impressive 35 total awards taking home the Best School Award in junior high for the 8th consecutive year.

Students from our Anaheim Hills, Edgewood and Preparatory Academy campuses participated in the fair with 23 students winning awards. In addition to three first place wins, Fairmont Prep student Jordan Francis won the Sweepstakes award for the best junior high overall project at the Fair in with his “We Can Stop the Fire!” project.

The Edgewood campus secured Fairmont’s long-standing reputation as the best school at the Fair by winning the Best Overall School Award for the second year running (all campuses considered, this is Fairmont’s 8th consecutive year of winning the award).

“I am so proud of our students and their teachers for another incredible showing this year at the Science and Engineering Fair. As our state and nation slips further and further behind in the math and sciences, Fairmont is a bright light proving that curiosity and scientific investigation is alive and well in the minds of our students,” says Fairmont President David Jackson.
