Fairmont Technology

"All of the new technology I have received in my classroom has definitely enhanced student engagement in the content being taught. Not only are kids more interested in what they are learning, but as a teacher I am able give my students first-hand knowledge that would not be readily available without these new enhancements! I definitely feel like the Promethean Board, the NEO 2 systems, and the Activote pods are changing the way students learn for the better."

- Ms. Joanna del Carmen, Edgewood Campus Teacher

"I have recently begun using the Promethean board in my classes, and the students love them. The lessons have become more interactive which captures the students' attention. With the increased interest the students are absorbing the concepts and performing better. The excitement to learn has multiplied."

- Ms. Donna Riley, Mable Campus Teacher

"With the advent of the computer age, there are many effective ways to communicate knowledge to students. No longer are teachers limited by a white board and Expo marker. The students live in a world of technology, and it seems counter intuitive to instruct them in a world without it. With the Promethean boards, document projectors, and Neo2's, the students are constantly challenged to not only view technology, but to experience it firsthand. These tools are the future, and I am excited to be able to possess the tools toeducate my students to the best of their abilities."

- Mr. Matt Calabria, Mable Campus Teacher

Overview     Technology Initiatives     Technology Training

Overview

The technology program at Fairmont Private Schools is a vibrant community of educators and technologists dedicated to sharing and discovering ways for students and teachers to use technology to enhance the academic achievement, build collaborative learning communities, and actively engage 21st century student minds.

Fairmont's investment in classroom technology is based on diligent research and proven academic returns. For instance, the decision to implement digital whiteboards in our classrooms was predicated on a world-renowned study by the Marzano Research Laboratory. This study, which was conducted at 50 schools across the nation, has proven conclusively that integrating the right mix of technology and faculty training can positively impact student achievement by an average of 17 percentage points in standardized testing.

We think of the equipment and software as the nouns of classroom technology, but they are not the magic of change in instruction. Those things are verbs: collaboration, learning, and engagement. When you combine the right mix of technology nouns and verbs with the magic of an experienced, passionate teacher, it is truly breathtaking.

Interactive Whiteboards

At Fairmont, interactive whiteboards are transforming classrooms into exciting, welcoming environments where students are granted the freedom to learn like they think. Interactive whiteboards enable anything that can be seen or done on a computer screen to be projected onto a whiteboard. Sounds simple enough, but seeing it (and our students) in action is nothing short of astonishing.

ActiVotes

Even the best teachers aren’t mind readers. And the students who are falling behind are often the least likely to speak up and tell you that they need help. Assessment for learning is a revolutionary way for teachers to gain instant insight into whether students understand a concept, lesson or idea, while creating an engaging environment that encourages contribution and creativity.

High Definition Document Cameras

Imagine the educational impact of viewing a science experiment in real time with an entire class, or displaying a book on the 78" interactive whiteboard as the teacher highlights key sections. With our new document cameras, Fairmont teachers can do all that and more.

NEO2

With easy access to AR Quizzes via their NEO2 laptops, our students spend less time waiting for a computer and more time reading and taking Accelerated Reader Quizzes. As a result, we’ve found that the NEO2 builds even greater excitement for reading while improving students' reading skills even more. NEO2 allows our teachers to easily design, deliver, grade, and analyze student quizzes.

Technology Training

At Fairmont, we believe technology can be a powerful instructional force in student achievement and engagement. We also believe that there is much more to technology integration than simply throwing technology and training at our teachers. The success of classroom technology initiatives is dependent on skillfully combining it with proven teaching methods to create a balanced, effective learning environment.

Fairmont teachers are required and encouraged to participate in a variety of training classes and seminars, held all year long, to keep them current on technology tools for use in the classroom. Our goal is to make the learning process as engaging and effective as possible for this generation of digital natives.
